This study investigated the relationship between students’ interest and study habits and students’ academic performance in Charanchi Local Government Area of Katsina State. four research questions and four null hypotheses. Hypotheses one and two were tested using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient Statistic, while three and four were tested using t-test all at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted correlational research design and used questionnaires,as instruments for data collection which consist twenty (20) items. The questionnaire consists of three sections. Section “A” contained personal data of respondents, section “B” contained information on students’ interest and section “C” contained information on students’ study habits. The questionnaires were entitled “students’ Interest Questionnaire” (SIQ) with 10 items and “students’ study habits questionnaire” (SSHQ) with 10 items to elicit information from the respondents. The sample for the study was arrived at using stratified sampling technique. A total of one hundred and forty eight (148) students were used as research sample which consist of seventy four (74) male and seventy four (74) females. Two (2) schools were selected out of seven (7) secondary schools in the study area. The findings revealed that there was significant positive correlation between students’ interest and students’ academic performance and also there was significant positive relationship between students’ study habit and students’ academic performance. The findings further indicate that male students have significantly higher mean score than their female counterparts in both students’ interests and students’ study habits. Recommendations made include: Parents and teachers should interact with the students to improve their interests and study habits on schooling, and arouse the interests of the students towards impacts of learning and discourage them on watching unnecessary movies or sports among others. The study concluded that the interest and study habits of students have great impact on the academic achievement of the secondary school students
