INFLUENCE OF ADVERSITY QUOTIENT ON STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN SECONDARY SCHOOL IN NASARAWA SOUTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT OF NASARAWA STATE.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of adversity quotient on students’ academic achievement in Nasarawa south senatorial district of Nasarawa State. Specifically, the study was designed to investigate the influence of adversity quotient of control on academic achievement of secondary school students in Nasarawa South Senatorial District, Nasarawa Sate. Descriptive survey research design was used in the study. Two research questions were raised and answered and two corresponding hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance. The sample for the study was 381 students randomly selected from five randomly selected schools in the area of study. Simple random sampling technique was used to select the respondents. The instrument used for data collection was structure questionnaire named: Adversity Quotient and Students’ Academic Performance (AQSAP).The data obtained was analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The results showed that adversity quotient of control have a significant influence on academic achievement of secondary school students in Nasarawa south senatorial district. The study recommended that State It is recommended that qualified school counselors should recruited and deployed to secondary schools in order to guide learners in coping with the demands of their studies through the management of their adversity quotient of control. AQ is a valid and reliable benchmark that can be tracked against performance or other important variables. It is not permanent but can be changed and strengthened over time.
