EVALUATION OF AGE GRADE INVOLVEMNT INTHEIMPLEMENTATION OF ROAD CONSTRUCTIONPROJECTSINBOKI AND IKOM LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS OFCROSSRIVER STATE, NIGERIA.

Abstract

This study attempted an evaluation of age grade involvement in the implementationofroad construction projects in Boki and Ikom Local Government Areas of Cross RiverState, Nigeria. The assessment was done on five sub-variables on communitydevelopment projects including education, health care facilities, potable drinkingwater, granting of credit facilities and road construction projects. Five researchquestions were answered with respect to the variables in the study. Relevant literaturewere reviewed based on the study variables. Evaluation design was adoptedfor thestudy. The sample in the study was 620 from a population of 800 obtainfromstepwise sampling procedure. The questionnaire was employed for data collection. Cronbach alpha reliability estimate was used to ascertain the reliabilityof theinstrument after been validated by three experts. Findings from the study revealedthat the involvement of age grade members in Boki and Ikom local government areasofCross River State is low to a large extent in terms of road construction projects. It wastherefore recommended among others that all government ministries and parastatalsshould involve age grade organizations adequately in their planningandimplementation of the various community projects.
