ASSESSMENT OF PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING OF WOMEN EXPOSED TO VIOLENT CONFLICTS IN PLATEAU STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract

Women in Plateau State, Nigeria have been disproportionately affected by violent conflicts, experiencing physical and emotional abuse, displacement, and loss of loved ones. Despite the significant psychological distress experienced by women in this context, there is a lack of research on their psychological well-being. This study aimed to assess the psychological well- being of women exposed to violent conflicts in Plateau State, Nigeria, and to identify the factors that influence their psychological distress. The study reviewed the concept, nature, dimensions, prevalence, risk factors, impact and assessed the effect of psychological well-being of women exposed to violent conflicts in plateau state, Nigeria. The study underscores the need for policymakers and practitioners to prioritize the psychological well-being of women in this context and to invest in community-based initiatives and programs that promote women's empowerment and autonomy. Additionally, mental health services should be made accessible and affordable for women in this context.
